Insurance taken out by academy operators under the Act on the Establishment and Operation of Private Teaching Institutes and Extracurricular Lessons. It covers bodily and property loss to students and staff from accidents while running the academy and its facilities.
N2N Insurance Brokerage does not represent any single insurer — it independently represents the client as an FSS-registered broker (Reg. No. 2026-012201). We compare the wordings, rates and service of AIG · Chubb · DB · Hyundai · KB · Meritz to propose the cover and price best suited to your risk. Each insurer's full wording is provided at application and binding.
Private academy liability insurance compensates loss the insured suffers by incurring legal liability when an accidental incident — arising from the academy facilities it owns, uses or manages, and from work according to their use — injures another person (a student or visitor) or damages their property.
Facilities under the Act — teaching rooms, entrance-exam academies, art, music and sports academies, reading rooms and study cafés — are recommended to insure, and some local authorities require proof of cover at registration or reporting.
Accidents in any space in the academy — classrooms, practice rooms, corridors, stairs.
Accidental incidents caused by instructors or teachers during lessons.
Treatment costs even for a student's own carelessness, up to a set limit.
Extension for incidents during practice in art, science, sport and more.
Primary, middle and high-school exam and supplementary academies.
Art, music, taekwondo, ballet, yoga and other arts/sports facilities.
Lifelong-learning academies — computing, languages, certifications.
Reading-room, study-café and study-room operators.

A case where, just after class, a student rising while grabbing a bag struck their nose on the back of a classmate's head, causing a nosebleed and a broken nose. Part of the academy's safety-management responsibility was recognised.
A case where a first-grader gluing a robot leg at an art academy was burned when melted glue dripped onto their hand. The academy immediately gave first aid with burn spray and ointment, and the child recovered without scarring after hospital treatment.
A case where a middle-school student stretching while studying in a reading room fell backward as the chair leg broke. The facility's responsibility for poor maintenance of an old chair was recognised and treatment costs were paid.

If the insured event has already occurred at the time the contract is made, the contract is void. However, where the contract is void due to the company's intent or negligence, or where the company knew or could have known of the nullity before acceptance yet did not refund the premium, the company refunds the premium with interest at the policy-loan rate published by the Korea Insurance Development Institute, compounded annually, for the period from the day after payment to the day of refund.
The specific losses not covered (exclusions) are set out in each insurer's policy wording and product description; the main exclusions are summarised on this page. For other cover-specific grounds on which claims are not paid, please refer to the policy wording.
The company provides cover, in accordance with the policy, from the time it accepts the application and receives the first premium. Where the company accepts the application after receiving the first premium with it, cover also begins from the time the first premium was received.
The application must be completed by the policyholder, and the policyholder and the insured must sign it by hand. Failure to sign by hand may result in disadvantages regarding the validity of the contract. On an internet cyber-mall, an electronic signature may be used instead.
The policyholder has the right to be given and have explained the information needed about the product they wish to buy.
The insurer and N2N Insurance Brokerage must explain the important matters of the product to ordinary financial consumers.
When applying, the policyholder, the insured or their agent must disclose truthfully the facts they know regarding the questions in the application (including the questionnaire). Otherwise the claim may be declined or the contract cancelled. Where insurance is taken out by telephone or other means of communication, the duty is performed by answering the seller's questions, which are recorded, without a separate written questionnaire, so answers must be given with particular care.
If, after the contract is made, any of the following arises in respect of the subject-matter insured, the policyholder or the insured must notify the company in writing without delay and obtain endorsement on the policy.
The surrender value is the amount paid if the contract is cancelled early. Unlike bank savings, insurance combines risk protection and savings: part of the premium is paid out as claims to other policyholders who suffer accidents, and part covers the insurer's operating expenses, so the surrender value on early cancellation may be less than the premiums paid, or nil.
Except as provided by law, the insurer and N2N Insurance Brokerage do not collect, use, inspect or provide personal data related to this contract — for its conclusion, maintenance and claim payment — without the consent of the policyholder, the insured or the beneficiary. However, for those purposes the insurer may, with the consent of the policyholder and the insured and in accordance with law, provide personal data to other insurers and insurance-related bodies.
The above is a summary and excerpt of the policy wording; for grounds on which claims are not paid and other details, please refer to the policy wording and product description.
Common risk patterns in academy operation — a five-scenario self-check
Some local authorities require proof of liability cover when an academy registers or reports. Confirm in advance that the cover suits your operation.
Physical-activity lessons such as art (glue guns, materials), science practice, sport and taekwondo carry a high risk of student injury. A practice-risk extension should be considered.
Primary and middle-school students have a high frequency of accidental incidents such as collisions and falls, and the academy's safety-management and supervision responsibility tends to be broadly recognised.
Accidental incidents during instructors' teaching lead to the academy's vicarious liability, not just the individual instructor's.
Injury to users from ageing seats and fixtures or facility defects can create owner/manager liability even in unstaffed operation.
Disputes often arise where a non-academy facility is insured under “academy liability.” If a facility that is not an academy under the Act — a counselling centre, a vocational-training institution, a lifelong-learning facility — is classed as an academy, then in an accident the actual business differs from the business on the policy and a dispute over cover arises. Confirming at application the legal basis on which the facility operates — academy, lifelong-learning facility or vocational-training institution — and designing the matching liability cover is the starting point for reducing disputes.

The wording and structure points decision-makers most often overlook
Counselling centres, vocational-training institutions, lifelong-learning facilities and driving academies are distinct from academies under the Act. Mis-applying the business type can affect not just the premium but cover itself in an accident, so insure based on the facility's legal basis.
Art and science practice, physical activity and external field trips can leave gaps under base cover alone. Check that the experiment/practice/field-learning extension matching your lessons is included.
An accident from a student's own carelessness may not establish the academy's legal liability, and the no-fault on-site medical endorsement supplements this within a set limit. The limit should be reviewed together.
The questions decision-makers ask most when considering academy liability insurance
Academies and teaching rooms registered under the Act are the subjects of academy liability insurance. Counselling centres, vocational-training institutions, lifelong-learning facilities and driving academies have a different legal basis and are usually designed under a separate liability cover. Confirming the business type by the facility's registration basis reduces cover disputes in an accident.
An accidental incident an instructor causes while teaching leads to the academy's vicarious liability and is assessable for cover per the wording. Considering an instructor professional-liability endorsement can broaden the scope.
An accident from a student's own carelessness may not establish the academy's legal liability. However, with a no-fault on-site medical endorsement, treatment costs for in-facility incidents can be covered up to a set limit regardless of fault.
Accidents during experiments, practice, materials use and external field trips can leave gaps under base cover alone, so they are covered via the practice / field-learning extension. Check at application that the endorsement matching your lessons is included.
No. Academy liability insurance covers the legal liability for bodily and property loss to others (students, visitors). Damage to the academy facility itself falls under property insurance such as fire or comprehensive property cover.
The insurer calculates it based on the academy type, the number and age of students, facility area and structure, practice risk and past incident history. The exact premium and terms are confirmed after underwriting by insurers such as AIG, Chubb, DB, Hyundai, KB and Meritz.
